Gallery Cannot Be Generated - A Critical Error Has Occured

I am running Shozam Advanced Edition 1.2.34.0 on Windows Vista.  I tried to update an existing Web Gallery by adding and removing images.  When I tried to generate the gallery, I got two popup error messages:  Gallery cannot be generated.  A critical error has occured. Application will now close.  I have tried several workarounds and none work.  The error log.txt states:

    Message ---

I am stuck and can no longer use Shozam.  Any help would be appreciated.

     Thanks, Jennifer

    Jennifer,

It is possible that the gallery has somehow become corrupted or there may be some other issue. For this type of technical issues I recommend you submit a support ticket to Shozam Helpdesk at http://helpdesk.shozam.com. Provide them the error and as much info as possible about the type of changes performed to the gallery between when you were able to generate and when you were not. Also give them a link to your online gallery.

Jennifer, the exact same thing has happened to me.  I have lost my second Gallery set up and tech support will get back to me in 48 HOURS!  Who has time for this! How is it possible to create a website in this way. Not Happy.  Did you ever get a resolution?

Yes, I did resolve my problem.  I was unable to generate the web gallery when running Windows Vista OS.  I copied my web gallery to another computer running Windows XP and the gallery generated fine.  I have recently removed Vista from my PC and installed Windows 7.  I'll try to regenerate my web gallery using this new OS and will post this weekend with my results.

Re: Gallery Cannot Be Generated - A Critical Error Has Occured

Under certain circumstances Windows Vista does not provide enough permission to Shozam to write gallery files to the computer. When this happens, Shozam fails.

I looked a t JerryG support ticket and see the error log identified a specific file which could not be written/accessed by Shozam. The file was in a 'Preview' folder part of the Shozam files.

Here is what can be done to correct that behavior on Vista:

    Steps to provide full access:
    • 1)     Go to the directory where Shozam is installed, typically C:\Program Files\Shozam.
    • 2)     Right Click Preview folder.
    • 3)     Select Properties.
    • 4)     Select Security tab.
    • 5)     Edit permissions for logged in user (User name you logged in currently).
    • 6)     Give full control (Check Full control option in Allow block).
    • 7)     Verify Allow and Deny options so that no option is selected in Deny block.
