    How do I?

I've been working on a large gallery (or will be) using just Shozam to create a website. I've used the HTML tab to put a menu above the gallery, incorporated a javascript search feature just below the menu (but still above the gallery). The site is created with multiple galleries linked together through the menu. The main index page was created using the info.htm file as well as a FAQ, Submission Guidelines, Copyright page, and a Future Plans page (all using info.htm from each gallery).

The ART and PHOTOGRAPHY galleries link to the index.htm file for each gallery.

Everything works fine but I would like to add something else and don't know the best way to do it. So if anyone has suggestions (I'd like to keep everything Shozam without using frontpage or something else if I can help it).

In addition to the other menu items I would like to add new galleries for each individual contributor (artist, designer, or photographer) but not in the main menu. What I would like to do is build a gallery for each contributor. I'm trying to figure the best way to go about this. I would like to use the details.htm page to have a description about each contributor and then find a way to link an associated image to another gallery for the contributor, or have a hyperlink in the description to the new gallery.

Is there a way to link that image to another gallery without a lot of editing in the details.htm file?

Here's the gallery in case you want to take a look at it.

    The gallery

Should open in a new tab/window.

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Re: How do I?

Let me clarify a little. What I'm after is to find a page that Shozam creates that's much like the index or details pages. But without all the thumbnails. Would like to use Shozam as a menu itself rather than having a gigantic menu above the gallery pages.

In this page I'd like one image per contributor and be able to have a bio about the contributor with a link to either an individual gallery for for the contributor or to an album inside a gallery. Hope this makes some kind of sense. I've been playing and get something like what I want except I keep getting all the thumbnails to an album. If there were a way to hide selected thumbnails in the index or details page I think I could get what I want. But using the hide images box only seems to hide the larger images from an album, but still creating all the thumbnails.

    Re: How do I?

Well, I've come very close to what I want and think this is the best I can get. If I remember exactly what I've done I've managed to make an artist "bio" and menu page. The main galleries are just a compilation of art and photography styles. Since it's getting large fairly quickly, I wanted a way to showcase each individual contributors work also without building a gigantic menu at the top of each page going to separate galleries or albums. It's a bit complicated to explain but there is a reason I need to do this.

So here's the steps I think I took:

Created a gallery with a couple of individual (contributor) photos.

Then I made an Intro album using one image from each contributor. In the text field I just put a copyright notice.

In the long description I'll put the artist's bio.

Then in the main menu (above the gallery pages)  I just link to the details.htm file in the intro album. In this case it's album 3 since I had already created two previous albums.

This way there is a link to the contributors album as well as the thumbnail on the right side is also a link to that image in the album.

Once I get this added to the website and get the menu working right I'll post a link in case anyone wants to see how it functions. Keep in mind the entire site is built using Shozam (and as usual getting many good comments about it). The only outside source is a javascript search feature. The menu was created using the HTML tab. No other web editors were used to create this website.

Wow. Good work. The website sure exposes the potential of Shozam. I'll be looking forward to the finished version. Be sure to post it.

    Re: How do I?

Tom, I think you are on the right track...

One feature we would like to add to Shozam is to provide the option in Step 3 to assign a URL as a target for an album. This way you could create a 'parent' gallery and have each album point to the respective URLs of other galleries. So you can create and upload full galleries, in your case one for each photographer. Then you can create a new 'parent' gallery, where you create albums, one for each photographer, and containing typically just one image in each album. In Step 3, you would assign the respective artist album to point to their respective full gallery. You could control what pages you want to give access to in the parent gallery by hiding links using the Label tab in Step 5.

So now the intro page of the new 'parent' gallery will be the main intro page. It will show thumbnails identifying each photographer. Clicking on the album thumbnail will take the visitor to the intro page for the gallery of that photographer. Or, depending on hte URL assigned, you can have it go to the Info Page or some Details Page of their gallery.

For now, you can probably do the same but will have to manually accomplish the steps that is now missing in Shozam. That is, once you have the parent gallery implemented, to go to the intro page and edit the HTML so the intro page album thumbnails point to their respective 'child' galleries.

If you go on this path, would be really interested in your feedback and see if we would need anything else in Shozam to enable creating such hierarchies consisting of galleries of galleries.

    Re: How do I?

I think that would be a great feature. In my previous post, though, the information is incorrect. I am actually using the info.html and not the details.htm file. Since the info file has the menu above it is still easy to navigate around. So far I've gotten really good comments about how the site works and looks. I have to admit it is a bit of work to build this type of site just using shozam, but a great learning experience for me since I like Shozam so much for displaying photography. The major part of the work is just the fact that each section of the website is a gallery in itself.

I've had a few people tell me that they didn't think Shozam could really build a website since it's a "photo gallery". So I took this on in part just to prove them wrong. Well, now they've eaten their words so to speak. So far other than "operator error" with HTML, etc. it has done exactly what we all wanted. There may be some easier way without having so many separate galleries, but really only two or three need much maintenance other than if there is a change in the "main site menu". But since the others are really only an info page it's not much work to change.

I know, for one, I'm quite happy with the way it's turning out. As far as problems, most are errors with my HTML, which has really caused some strange results but most have been simple to figure out. I can't imagine trying to create this with something other than Shozam.

The forum has been a great place for me to learn. The support from Razvan, Cowboy, and others from the beta days is certainly appreciated.

Here's the site if anyone would like to take a look:
