Alert - prevent unintended loss of files

We had one report of a potential issue that we think is important enought to issue an alert about.

Latest update release 1.2.35 changed the functionality in Step 5, where the Gallery Title and Gallery Location fields are displayed. Shozam no longer creates a parent folder with the same name as the gallery name. So, if you are working on an existing gallery and decide to change where the gallery is to be generated, so you browse for a new Gallery Location in Step 5, the gallery files will be generated directly into that location. Shozam will not create a containing folder so you should browse for a location folder that you intent to contain only the files of the gallery.

Under certain circumstances (still under investigation) Shozam may delete the files in the supposed gallery folder before it generates the gallery files. If this happens and you have an unintended Gallery Location that has other files that you need, unrelated to Shozam, you place those files at risk!

We are currently investigating this situation to better understand the specific conditions under which this happens. It is likely we will redesign the Step 5 to be more explicit about the difference between Gallery Title, Gallery Folder Name and Gallery Folder Location. In the interim, please be aware of the potential confusion and always make sure the Gallery Location points to the folder containing the gallery files and nothing else.

     Razvan,

    OK. I'm confused.

I tried .35 and created a new gallery.  It generated right where I wanted it to go and created a folder identical to the Gallery Title I used.  The folder it generated contained all the files.

It seems to work just like .34.

I'm also using .35 and haven't run across any issues with it yet. So far it's been working fine for me. But I do make regular backups of everything just in case.

I'm the one who had the problem. A parent folder was not created. I lost many very important folders because of that.

After recovering enough to start thinking rationally, I then created a new folder to save the show and again, no parent folder was created. Inside the new folder were the individual files and folders created. I repeated this several times and, every time, no parent folder was created.

I have Vista and don't know if that could have something to do with the problem, but for me, this was a serious problem.

I've had Shozam for a few years and have created hundreds of shows without any serious problem like this one.

I have uninstalled the new version and have reverted back to the previous version. I created a show and it created the parent folder as it should. So, until this is resolved, I'm staying with the previous version.

I have found, through this experience, a fairly decent file recovery program. I used 3 or 4 different programs to attempt to recover what I lost and I had the most success with Handy Recovery.

Vista most likely is the culprit.

    It behaves properly on XP.
