How to create two differently configured gallery versions and keep them separate?

    Hello there -

I've been using Shozam for about a year - and LOVE it; it's a fabulous ap that makes me appear more fabulous than I really am...but now I'm hoping to take the next "step" in terms of complexity. Presently I'm building a website using website builder tools provided by my host company, (and a pile of html and css books frm the library), with the intent of flexing available e-commerce functionality. To date, I have not attemped to sell anything online - the web gallery has basically served to drive sales through my art studio. (But I need to flex technology better, since I've outgrown the capability of Shozam's info page, and my business needs are changing). Basically, the plan is to transfer text-type content that typically appears on the info page in Shozam to some of the new website pages, and then add on to this with other information things affecting my business. However, I want to continue using my Shozam gallery setup even though my web host company provides a version of a similar (but not equal) photo gallery tool online, by means of placing links from the new Home page to/from the existing shozam gallery. (In a nutshell - linking a website "front end" to my shozam gallery). Consequent to this, the website "back end"  will consist of shopping cart/inventory tracking/general e-commerce capabilities, (which I'm almost finished configuring). The goal is to have an elegant yet simple process-controlled method for effectively selling my artwork online. With me so far?

So here's where I need some guidance from all you Shozam gurus out there.... (I'm not especially tech-savvy but capable of following the lead of someone who knows what the best practice is). Because I'd like to keep my current shozam gallery online until such time as the website setup is fully mature and configured properly, I need to plan the transition carefully since I don't want to take my shozam gallery offline until the switchover. For the integrated website (e-com website with linked shozam gallery), I need to generate a version of the gallery that has an entirely different info page setup - no content really other than perhaps a link back to the website home page, (a return if you will). Has anyone out there had any experience with this sort of thing? No doubt there are varying ways to effect what I'm trying to achieve; your help in this regard would be really appreciated. I would especially appreciate any advice you might have regarding naming conventions and file organization, having fumbled my way through one or two inadvertent disasters, thanks to not being consistent about things, and not really understanding the file system well enough.

    Thanks in advance, users....

    Particul,

It should be pretty straight-forward to do what you want.

    • Download and install the latest update of Shozam from http://community.shozam.com/files/folders/1471/download.aspx (it is v36 that is now available though it has not been yet officially announced and the release notes are not yet available but it has a better user interface in Step 5 which I am referencing below and will benefit you)
    • Open existing gallery with Shozam and then generate it in Step 5 pick a new Gallery Folder Name (this is a new field in version 1.3.36)
    • Generate the gallery (Shozam will generate a copy of the gallery in the new folder) so now you can choose one or the other to work on when you start Shozam in Step 1
    • Modify the new gallery as you see fit, like removing the info Page
    • In Step 6 create a new Upload Preset, since you will want your new gallery to be uploaded in a different location. Since your gallery now is your main website, you likely have nothing in the Sub-directory field for your existing preset. So for the new preset, enter something in that field, like "gallery" (without the quotes). This way Shozam will not upload the gallery into your website root but rather in a folder called "gallery" and this will ensure your new gallery will be separate and not conflict with your existing files. You will also need to add "/gallery" to the path in the Web site field at the bottom. then do Test Connection and Test View, verify timestamp is correct and save the Preset
    • You will need to ensure you are using the intended preset with each gallery so they each upload at their designated location on the server
    • To link back from the gallery to your website, you can use the link tab in Step 5 (Shozam Advanced Edition and higher). For more fancy links or tighter integration with a custom top header or common top menu navigation, use the HTML tab in Step 5 (Shozam Business Edition and higher).
    • For more about integrating a Shozam gallery with a separate website, refer also to the online FAQs.
