     DSDigitals.

    Tell you what, I will trade you the weather in Springfield for what we suffer through on the North Coast during the winter!

    Nice job on the gallery compilation.  Enjoyed a brief peek and will return for a more detailed tour.  I have always been a Civil War student so I will await your photos from Stonewall Jackson's 1862 Shenandoah Valley Campaign.

    As you know, my Six Shooter is always loaded and ready at hand to fire some friendly shots over your head.

    You did such a nice job of creating a "Virtual Tour" so why don't you change your labels to reflect it?

    Suggestions:

    1. Intro ---> Start Tours (Or something like that)
    2. Index --> Tours
    3. Album --> Tour Location

    Because I suffer from old age as well, time to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY  Cake so I don't forget.

    Cowboy,

    I can always count on you to add some quality suggestions. Good Idea! Thanks. I'll look at it between naps.

    Also, thanks for the early birthday wishes. How well I know about those senior moments. I saw a depressing segment on the news last night that said we could realistically expect to live to be 150 or more. So, now I have instantly gone from old to not even middle aged. And I was just getting excited about the senior discounts.

    There is some brightly colored object in the sky this morning. I think I remember seeing it before. It seems to have turned the sky a bluish color. I have to go out and investigate before it disappears.

     Hey Old Guy,

    I checked out your gallery and wanted to let you know I enjoyed it totally. Was almost like taking a trip there. Very well done.

    150? Why would I want to live that long? So I can look at this grey hair for another 90 years? I don't think so. And senior discounts, will they get raised to 100+ years? And social security, finally retire at age 130?

    Happy Birthday!!

    Re: Abe Lincoln's and my home town

    Tom, Thanks for the kind words and Birthday wishes.

    One of these days we need to come back out your way but it is so far for those of us who resist air travel. The last time we were there was in about '83.  We took a month in our broken down VW Vanagon. Problems started the second day and we were towed back the last 180 miles. Between those ends, we saw some beautiful country.

    My favorite photography story took place when we crossed over to Vancouver. I was taking some beautiful shots as we went through Buchart Gardens and toured the city in a horse drawn carriage with our Gr Sheppard dog sitting up in front watching the horse. At days end, we drove back onto the ferry and headed back to the US.  We got out of the camper on the ferry and  looked back at the disappearing skyline. I took out my camera to finish out the roll of film. 36 ...37.....38.......39..............40 . . .EXPLETIVE!    The film had not caught!  I had lost the last roll of shots. Remember those days; if you didn't advance the film too much when you loaded, you could squeeze out 37 or even 38 shots on a roll.  I'm sure I had award winning shots that never made it to film.

    So, keep on taking those NW shots and I will continue to enjoy them.

     (I'm with you on the 150, I'd rather die young and come back in my next life with a better camera)

     Old Guy,

    So, you resist air travel, huh?  Sounds like a fear of flying!

    I have the disease as well.  My first flight ever was in 1964 and I distinctly remember looking out the window and seeing flames coming from one engine.  The pilot must have pushed a button and smothered the flames.  Then, being the good pilot he was, he shut down the engine plus one on the other wing to be fair.  Now, I am flying on an airplane that originally had 4 engines and now is down to 2.

    Tom does give us a great feel for the NW and one of these days, I am really going to make an attempt to get out there.  Of course, I will travel by JEEP.

    The scenery is not all that good on the North Coast but at least we can beat him on one thing:

    We had a river catch on fire!

    Cuyahoga River Fire - 1969

    Now, if I only can figure out how to use the digital camera my wife gave me for Christmas.

    Re: Abe Lincoln's and my home town

    yawn - stretch

    That was a long nap. I did finally get those changes uploaded. I also added some music. I did nod off previewing the New Salem album. I think I will need to cut it back a bit. The gallery seems to work on all three primary browsers.

    Alas, no burning rivers but there are fireworks over the Presidential Museum, the State Supreme Court Building and the Carillon. Threee fireworks beats a river fire.

    AS for flying, I enjoyed it very much before you had to board in your jocky shorts but I still like my Jeep under my butt and a cooler full of Diet Coke in the back end. When I see the big red Q, I can stop for my favorite chocolate covered strawberry blizzard.  Add in a warm sleeping bag and a snapping fire (not in the Jeep) and you have contentment. Bring up http://www.gallerypg.com/WebGallery/Land%20of%20Lincoln%20-%20Springfield%20and%20surrounding%20sites/2/med/A_Lincoln_Library__14_.htm and go to the 60 shots of New Salem and I am out like a baby. Come to think of it, I spend most of my time out like a baby, a very loudly snoring one.

    Glad you liked it, Tomorrow they are going to have oxen turning the carding mill. I plan to get some pictures and add them to the already long New Salem tour.

    Come visit and see it first hand!
